Help me raise $60,000 for my Multiple Sclerosis medical treatment.
Hello. My name is Shavonne Thurman and I live in Metro Atlanta. I need your help.
Nineteen years ago, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a chronic, unpredictable, progressive disease of the central nervous system which causes the immune system to incorrectly attack healthy nerve tissue (myelin sheath).
MS affects each person differently with a wide variety of symptoms. Some people call it a "snowflake disease" because no two MS patients are alike. My symptoms include bladder issues, extreme chronic fatigue, hearing loss, numbness, extreme pain, poor coordination and balance issues. I use forearm crutches or a walker for mobility; HOWEVER there's some hope.
Hematopioetic Stem Cell Transplant {HSCT} is a procedure done daily for the treatment of various diseases, which now includes MS. HSCT uses my own harvested stem cells and radical chemotherapy. The chemotherapy suppresses my immune system, which in turn stops the progression of MS. My stem cells are then reintroduced back into my body and my immune system is rebooted. This is not a cure but HSCT has added benefits. Some patients are able to walk again. There are no guarantees I'll walk normally again but that possibility alone means I have to try this.
The procedure is done in several facilities around the world. I've been accepted into the program in Mexico. I'm raising $60,000 for the procedure, post-op medications and treatment.
