Josh Surovey Kidney Transplant Fund

I Graduated from College in early 2012. I earned a BA in IMD (Interactive Media Design) from the Art Institute of TN Nashville. It took me a little over 5 years as I had to work a full time job over an hour away as I attended Full Time.

It was about 2 weeks before I graduated that I was diagnosed with kidney failure, I would have to be placed on dialysis to maintain life.

I chose Peritoneal Dialysis, which allowed me to do my treatments at home. For 12 hours a day, mainly at night while I slept, I received my treatment.

At the time of diagnosis I weighed over 350 pounds. I've been on dialysis for over 3 years, the time has kind of flown by it seems. The first couple years my treatment and medications had to be altered in order for me to have, what felt like, a normal day.

The nurses and doctor were finally able to get it all straightened out. I managed to lose a little bit of weight here and there, nothing substantial. A good friend of mine moved back into town, we started working out every day, committed to a diet. I have lost over 100 pounds, most of which was within the last year.I could not have done it without him.

There were some dark days, nothing but the brightest to look forward to as a kidney transplant is now in my direct future. I'm eager to get my life back!

My transplant coordinator called me this morning 5/18/15 with news that I had qualified to be placed on the transplant list and that I also had been given an 1100+ day time frame bonus due to the start of my dialysis date. On top of that news I was also informed that I'm in the top 4% Nationwide to receive only the best kidney! I was informed that I could receive a cadaver kidney as early as this summer! They are extremely happy with my progression in weight loss and are ready to help me get my life back on track!

I've worked very hard to get myself into a healthier condition that would allow me to receive a kidney.  It has not been easy and it will not be easy as I continue to get myself healthy. I'm asking for these funds in order to aid me in the transplant.

The immunosuppressants that I will have to take for the rest of my life are extremely expensive. If I do not take these then I will be at risk of losing the kidney. I have to have around $1,400 at the time of the surgery. Costs to accommodate immediate family at the time of transplant. Post-Transplant appointments and follow-up tests.

I typically do not like to ask people for things, especially anything relating to financials. I strive to do things for myself and on my own. I truly am in need of assistance financially to move forward with the Transplant. I'm asking for help. Please help me receive the kidney that I have fought so hard to earn.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I do appreciate it.
