#TradingTrashForEducation
We all know that children working and playing inside an active, filthy dumpsite is dangerous, unhealthy and unethical. But yet, it still happens all over the world in most developing countries. The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), the largest association for the waste sector in the world, and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), the leading global waste association, are doing something about it.
SWANA is supporting ISWA’s efforts to educate and clothe children who currently work as waste pickers at dumpsites and provide them with an education. These children live and work in unimaginable conditions, breathing unhealthy air and coming into contact with garbage and toxics on a regular basis. The ISWA Scholarship Programme currently targets more than 100 children who are sorting garbage in dumpsites called Nueva Vida and La Chureca in Nicaragua.
Please make a generous tax-deductible contribution to this exceptionally worthy cause. SWANA and ISWA will be announcing the interim results of this fundraising effort at the ISWA World Congress/WASTECON in September 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland.
There is No Time to Waste. Please make a contribution today. Thank you.
