Trans Peer Mentor Program Fundraiser

OUR STORY:
The Trans Peer Mentor Program was established in May of 2018. Aerin Riegelsberger, a trans non-binary educator and counselor, created this unprecedented program in response to the isolation they observed among gender expansive youth.

Aerin proposed the program idea to inMind, a local group practice that specializes in gender affirming care for youth and families. With the assistance of inMind and Dr. Tanisha Stewart, this program became a reality. The Trans Peer Mentor Program has matched eight mentor/mentee pairs successfully to date.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTORSHIP:
These relationships provide mentees with a safe space to discuss topics of interest, and collaboratively navigate challenges. In these relationships, mentees gets to see themselves mirrored in a well-adjusted adult, internalize healthy messages of self-worth, and be heard in a non-stigmatizing and nonclinical setting. The mentors have reported a profound sense of value, purpose, and pride.

We all deserve the opportunity to develop a healthy self-image and form peer relationships where we can be witnessed, valued and proud of our true self. Our current and future participants need and deserve this. To support the growing needs and opportunities of its Trans Peer Mentor Program, inMind is seeking funding to sustain and eventually expand the program.
