I used to think missions trips were just about making a difference in a child's life, but now I know that it's our lives that are impacted by a single child.
"Will you be back next year?" Sonjay asked.
"God-willing, yes, we will! "I responded.
This is the conversation that takes place at the end of our program every summer, and every summer, I pray that we are able to come back.
The story
For the last 7 years, the Jamaica missions team from Bethel Gospel Assembly, Inc has implemented a Vacation Bible School (VBS) program in Union Gardens, an impoverished community in Kingston, Jamaica.
We host our VBS program at the Union Gardens Christian Academy Pre-school which formally opened its doors in 2002. Clair Davidson, born and raised in the Union Gardens Community and an active member of Bethel Gospel Assembly, liquidated her restaurant business and assisted in the renovation of an abandoned community center to house the school.
Bethel Gospel Assembly adopted the Union Gardens Christian Academy Pre-School in 2010 to support educational opportunity for pre-school children thereby contributing to a stronger and healthier community.
Our community-based program has reached up to 300 children each summer, and the numbers continue to grow. Some of these kids have no hope of their dreams being fulfilled, but we give them hope in Jesus Christ.
Our VBS program includes Bible teaching, counseling, recreational activities, social skills development, vocational training in sewing and baking along with hot nutritious meals and snacks. These efforts are headquartered at the Union Gardens Christian Academy Pre-school which formally opened its doors in 2002.
From children's classes to adult classes, our mission is simple: uplift the community of Union Garden with love ... the love of God.
How you can help
We are requesting your help as we prepare to launch another successful outreach to the children and families of the Union Gardens Community.
Your donation will go far in changing the lives of young people through the efforts of our church and this special group of Christian professionals and lay-workers who express the love of God through the ministry of community outreach and development.
**Each team member pays their own airfare and lodging so that 100% of the proceeds of this fundraising campaign will go towards covering the costs of our week of outreach events and activities. The costs include providing lunch, school supplies, and loads of love to the children in Union Gardens.

This year, we decided to do something special for our donors. For your generous support of our ministry, everyone who gives a donation of $25 or more will receive a free tote bag.
