URGENT Medical & Food Needs

Donation protected

I'm a 55 yr old widow (twice, actually), unemployed for more than a year due mostly to having no car.  I was finally able to raise the funds for the car last month, but am now in a medical and financial crisis of a different kind.

First, let me say that I have been looking for work, all along, and doubly intensified since obtaining the car.  But so far, other than the promise of a temp-to-perm spot in a call center in late October, I haven't found anything that will start any sooner.

To make ends meet, I've had Medicaid and Food Stamps (SNAP) benefits, but that has now been cut off due to the failure of my county assistance office caseworker to properly update my address in their computer system.  Apparently he entered the info in the paper file, but got distracted by something else and never went back to enter it into the computer.   Because of this, when it was time for recertification, the notice went to the wrong address, and I never got it.

I'm trying to get both reinstated, but it takes time (up to 30 days), and that's time I don't have.  My medications (for a number of serious health issues) have run out, leaving me in constant, severe pain, and at risk for further complications.    The cost for a one-month supply of just one of those medications (I have to make a choice, so I'm going with the most effective one) is over $900.

Additionally, due to swelling in my legs, I have developed an open sore that is infected on my left leg.   The costs to treat this (sterile dressings, gauze, and pressure wraps to reduce swelling;  antiseptic spray, prescription topical "burn" creme plus oral antibiotics, etc.) are quite high (the medical supplies alone are extremely expensive, on top of the prescription costs.)

Due to this, the amount listed above is mostly for filling just one of my regular Rx's, plus a few refills of the leg creme, and the cost of the supplies to keep the wound clean, dry and protected.    The rest is for food, with a small cushion for anything unforseen.

I did look into food banks, but frankly they aren't practical for me right now, as I can't stay standing on line waiting my turn (due to pain and my leg), or carry heavy bags 1-2 blocks (or more) to the car due to limited parking options at the locations where food is distributed.    That may change once I have proper medication and my leg is healed a bit more... but for now, that's how it is.

If you can help, please do.  I can't even begin to describe the pain I'm in right now.   Frankly, it's taken me 2 days to write this because I can't stay sitting up more than a half hour at a time - nor can I keep my leg elevated (as it needs to be) when I'm sitting up.

This is truly an urgent situation, as the constant, severe pain, as well as the leg problems, make it nearly impossible for me to keep looking for work, and frankly, I can't even imagine going on an interview like this.  The sooner I can get back on my proper medication, and get my leg healed up, the better the chance that I'll find a job... or at the very least, be fit and ready to start the one job offer I've had that starts in late October (I'm currently hoping to  find something that starts sooner).

Thank you very much.
