Doughboy Caravan and Road Trip to Lexington
Tax deductible
The E. M. Viquesney Doughboy replica is on its way to Lexington – destination the WMA Museum!
The Minnesota Historical Society sponsored a traveling museum display on WWI, and upon completion of their traveling exhibit, they have graciously agreed that the WMA Museum will be the permanent home of the Doughboy replica (a small, but significant portion of their traveling exhibit).
When the Wentworth Military Academy Museum was founded nearly two years ago, the E. M. Viquesney Doughboy was the centerpiece of our call to action. In the end, we sued and were able to stop a bank from auctioning off our Doughboy to the highest bidder. Once we were in possession of the most iconic figure from Wentworth Military Academy, we did the most selfless thing we could think of: we placed it on permanent loan and paid for its re-erection on the famous Lafayette County Courthouse lawn in Lexington, Missouri. Our receipt of a suitable indoor replacement for our Museum is clearly karma of this noble cause we are on to preserve the history and legacy of Wentworth Military Academy.
The styrofoam Doughboy will has a hardened outer surface, so it's "pretty sturdy.” But the bayonet was purposely not reconstructed to keep kids from pulling on it. With the 100+ year old floors in the Museum, the lightweight nature of this Doughboy is the perfect solution. The Doughboy will be placed front and center on the main level of the Museum, facing Main Street.
