MY NAME IS LINDA MARSDEN, MYLES IS MY HUSBAND OF 42 YEARS

For those of you who don’t know Myles he was a famous dancer back in the 50s who was this hulk of a man, strong, independent, and I have to say quite easy on the eyes. He’s 83 years old this June and this last year I began to notice some major health changes in him which have started to progress over the past 6 months.

MY BIGGEST CONCERN CAME TRUE JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS

After extensive blood work and a CT can he was diagnosed with vascular dementia. If that wasn’t hard enough to accept, he also suffers from acute bronchitis which is chronic and got so bad last week it put him into the hospital for 5 days. He had a fever of 102 and wheezing, he could hardly breathe. He is very frail and his immune system is weak. They pumped him full of steroids, antibiotics, gave him numerous lung treatments and slowly he started to respond, enough so they sent him home with lots of instructions and precautions.

IT IS VERY HARD TO SEE MY HUSBAND LIKE THIS

Myles was always the strength I would attach myself too, this past year I could see that disappearing.  I have to be that strength now for the both of us.  So here I am once again, trying to care for myself,  a cancer patient with 2 years in remission and also be a responsible caregiver for not one but two other people in my life who need me as well,  my 77-year-old brother Skip who has recovered beautifully from a stroke one year and a half ago, and now my Myles, the love of my life.

The years have not always been good to us financially being in the arts, some days rich some days poor. We had bouts of bad luck from poor judgment and trusting the wrong financial advisor which proved devastating to all our hard work over the years. Because of this today we live on a very tight, fixed income with no pension to fall back on, no frills, just our menial social security checks each month, menial because we were self-employed most of these years. It doesn’t take much to tip us over the edge today and these past few years have taken such a toll on us with hospital bills, specialists co-pays, insurance co-pays, medications, rehab, medical equipment, and transportation, it was so hard to recover. It seems we take one step forward and two steps back, we can’t catch up lately  when another health issue will arise. The so-called Golden Years have not been so Golden to us!

FINDING MYSELF IN A DESPERATE SITUATION GoFundMe WAS WORTH TRYING

This time I have needed to swallow my pride and ask for help, which isn't an easy thing to do and makes you feel a little vulnerable, to say the least.  Myles needs financial support to help with much needed medical equipment. Then there are all the uncovered medical expenses that insurance doesn’t pay. Among all these health issues Myles cannot be left alone anymore, he is a fall risk as well.  Having someone come into our home a couple of times a week to relieve me  for an hour or two is so necessary to my own well being. Your donation will allow me to  continue my weekly wellness program at the Cancer Center which was offered to me for free last October as a cancer survivor. This wellness program is very important to me  for my own well being and it will continue to give me the strength that I need as a caregiver. The funds raised from  this campaign will take a huge burden off off of  my shoulders and let me breath just a bit better. I can't thank you all enough for that!

BOTTOM LINE FOR ME IS
I need to keep my husband  home with me, there is no better care for him than me caring for him at home in  familiar surroundings. Your support can help me do that. Please know, no amount donated is too small, every little bit helps and is  deeply appreciated.  We have all heard or experienced the horrible care elderly patients receive in most nursing homes, Myles and I are not in the financial position to shop for the best, and with our options I couldn't live with myself worrying day in and day out that he isn't being cared for, or worse!

I ask that you continue to send your prayers and positive energy  our way because it is working. Besides the many people who have already so generously donated your prayers also give me the strength I need to help get us through this difficult time and bring some sort of  balance back into our  life.
