'Thread of Hope '

Last month, our chairperson was in Lebanon visiting the work we do on the ground. As part of this visit, she took part in some of the sewing courses as part of our empowerment program. She noticed that some of the machines were worn due to their overuse. The women had made good use of the machines in the last couple of years through making dresses, bags and other garments which were then sold on the market. With the sewing machines on their last legs, we decided to launch a campaign to raise the funds to replace these machines: 'Thread of Hope'.
Listen to Lina, a trainer at our centre
Down to the basics. So for this campaign we are looking to raise the funds for 12 sewing machines in each of our 3 centres. Quite a task. With each machine along with 10 lessons costing 250 euro, we had quite the challenge ahead of us.
With this in mind, we came up with the idea of one person or group of people sponsoring a sewing machine through their own mini-fundraising events. A number of events came to our mind: do a sponsored run, have a coffee morning, have a bake-sale at work, a dinner evening with friends or offer contribution-based language/yoga/dance class!
Don't have the time to organise a fundraising event, no fret. Just donate to our cause!
What SB OverSeas does?
SB OverSeas is helping Syrian refugee women in Lebanon to become economically empowered. Our centres are a place where women can gather to find friendship, learn vocational skills and express themselves creatively.
The products created are sold in markets in Lebanon. All proceeds go directly back to the women who create the object.

Who is SB OverSeas
SB OverSeas is a humanitarian organisation working in Belgium and Lebanon to help those fleeing conflict. In Lebanon, we work in three locations providing empowerment and education through our women's centres and catch-up schools, as well as providing aid. From our HQ in Brussels, we run our operations as well as running our advocacy project and working with unaccompanied minors in the asylum centres on an integration and inclusion program.
How the funds will get to the beneficiaries
Once the cash is withdrawn, we will purchase the requisite amount of sewing machines to be distributed amongst our three centres in Lebanon.
