100 survival kits for the homeless
Donation protected
This is expected to be a much needed wet winter. With El Nino arriving soon, the mountain communities of southern California are bracing for some white snow pack.
This is welcome news for most of us who have been experiencing the worst drought in our history, but sadly there are hundreds of homeless who will be facing the freezing cold and sleeping in the rain with no shelter.
As we sit beside a warm fire in our tiny mountain cabin, I just want to help, or at least try to make a difference in the lives of a few people.
I started researching picking up a few items that I thought might make someone more comfortable, like a beenie hat, warm gloves and scarf, dry fresh socks, and a rain parka. Perhaps some toiletries (toothpaste, brush, comb, shampoo, soap) or a bit of food to ease an empty stomach.
I ran across the attached video, which offered up some great ideas of how to put together packs for the homeless for $20 each.
My packs may not end up identical to these, but will certainly utilize the basic foundation.
So, my goal is to put together 100 backpacks or kits that can be handed out to those most vulnerable and in need.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping make a difference!
