Katy passed peacefully in her sleep on May 14, 2019 after a courageous and ferocious 15 year battle with cancer. She was a warrior, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and much more. She was the best of us.
Katy was born on May 22, 1985 and resided in Lovington for most of her life. She was the second child of Allan Brown and Dora Willeford. Her older brother Evan sold her to a neighbor for $5 a few days after she was born.
Katy’s crowning achievement was her daughter Iris. Just months after Iris’s birth in 2008, Katy began chemotherapy to fight a relapse of the ovarian cancer she was initially diagnosed with in 2004. Katy fiercely battled cancer with every tool available to her so that she might be the loving, nurturing mother that raised a kind, smart, and funny daughter. No one fought so hard for such a noble cause.
Katy is survived by Zion Williamson, her husband Jody Wood, daughter Iris Wood, father Allan Brown, mother Dora Willeford, and brother Evan Brown.
