Hero's for Amber
It's difficult to think of a dollar amount when things are adding up as we go...
Amber currently has AML Leukemia and is 20 years old now. In January of 2008, she was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. It was a pretty tough battle. The battle included 14 rounds of chemotherapy 10 rounds of radiation. Many surgeries including a 16-hour surgery to remove the left side of her pelvis, hip, and all tissue the tumor touched. She has been in and out of Shriner's hospital every year since then for one surgery or another. From loose screws, shattered pelvis, to a foot rebuild.
Her current battle with Leukemia they blame on the chemotherapy she received in 2008. When they found it, 80% of her marrow was blasting with it.
She has a couple bone marrow matches. One of them did not work out. Apparently, their blood fought to the death. She is now waiting for the new donor to complete testing. If that works out, she will be going in December 16th for the start of the Chemotherapy. That will wipe out all of her marrow then on Christmas Eve she will get the donated bone marrow.
As her parents we are struggling to keep the bills paid, a roof over our heads, gas in the car, car repairs kept up with, even food. There is also Christmas... The next hospital stay will have her in for 45 days. That's forty five days of food, gas, and everything that goes along with trying your best to be by your child's side and give them what they need while still keeping roof over your heads. We'd like to have a home to "come home" to when she beats this cancer.
From our family to yours,
Thank You
