2018 Sydney Mardi Gras Float
Donation protected
In 2016, we organized the first Chinese float to join Sydney Mardi Gras parade. It's great experience to participate one of the most fabulours parade in the world, and present our sopport to Chinese LGBTQI community. Back then, it was very hard to persuade people to join our float and show up in the parade. The building cost of a float was another practical difficulty. Finally, we got a sponsor on board after six months' seeking. Without the support from our sponsor and Australian Chinese media, we cannot make it happen.
In 2017, those who joined our float in 2016 suggested we should do it again. They do love the supportive atmosphere of Mardi Gras. It was still extremely hard to get a sponsor, so we tried our best to share the costs of registration and costumes by all of our team members. Due to the limitation of our funding, we didn't build float in 2017.
Following is a short documentary video about our story.
Now we are planning for 2018 Mardi Gras. We will keep trying to gain more awareness for Chinese LGBT community and eliminate anti-LGBT bulling in school. We are happy to see it's not that sensitive and hard to get more people to join our float now based on the efforts we made in the last two years. It's the source of power to remind us of what we are doing is meaningful. However, the cost of building a float is still not easy to cover. 2018 is the 40th anniversary of Mardi Gras. We do hope we can join the parade again with our supportive marchers and a nice float. We have talked to many merchants about the sponsorship of our float. There is no any positve feedback. Really appreciated if we can get some help from the viewers of our story.

Following is our budget for the float:
Float building cost $9,800
including:
Truck hire $300
Audio and light system hire $3,500
Construction material and installation $5,000
Miscellaneous decoration $1,000
Marchers’ costumes $7,200
Costumes and overseas delivery cost $120 each for 60 marchers
Our target is to raise $17000.
Thanks in advance for all your support!
