Wildfire Recovery Effort 2018

Tax deductible
Hello, Dear Donors,

It is with a most grateful heart that we at First 5 Butte County say thank you for your wonderful generosity and kind thoughts during this most difficult time for our community. Our local North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) has now been able to enhance its own infrastructure to better meet the needs of Butte County as we work to rebuild. To avoid confusion and to manage resources more effectively and efficiently, First 5 will close this GoFund Me page and redirect potential donors to the NFCF website. This offers the opportunity for donations to be matched by other donors and funders, enabling all of us working on behalf of our community to reach out even further to help our most vulnerable families. Online donations can be made through https://nvcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=2163

Checks can also be mailed to NVCF (memo to First 5 Camp Fire fund) at North Valley Community Foundation, 240 Main Street, Suite 260, Chico, CA 95928

If entity donations of $10,000 or more want to do a wire transfer, please have them email Yvonne McQuaid, First 5 Director, [email redacted] so we can provide the account information and have their information for tracking purposes.

First 5 is focused on two levels of recovery for our little ones. First is the continued need for acute/emergency resources. We still have families displaced by the fire who are sleeping in cars and tents. Rain has arrived and the nights are in the very chilly low 30s. Our First 5 grantees are fully focused on finding these families and helping them access some type of safe and stable sheltering. The housing shortage is at a crisis level, so it will be a very long road to finding long-term housing for people.

Our second focus at First 5 is working with others to stabilize the childcare crisis. A number of private preschools, state preschools, and family child care sites were lost in the fire. Families are struggling to return to work amidst this additional crisis. We see this too as long-term work, and have committed resources to helping rebuild safe, caring, trauma-informed care for our littlest ones.
Butte County has a very long road ahead, but having people like each of you supporting our efforts greatly helps our spirits and our resolve.

With heartfelt thanks,
First 5 Butte County
