2018 CHS Band Play-A-Thon
Tax deductible
Welcome to the 2018 Cleveland Band Play-A-Thon.
On Friday, October 5, the Cleveland High School Bands will have an 8-HOUR "PLAY-A-THON" to raise money for the band program. They are doing this because they love music AND because they hope you will support them! The PLAY-A-THON is the main fundraiser for the Cleveland High School Bands and is the primary source of operating expenses for the band. The CHS Bands receive no direct funds from the school district. Your donations support the basic needs of running a high school band program including:
· Purchasing Sheet Music
· Subsidies for Performance Attire
· Travel to Festivals and Parades
· Solo and Ensemble Registrations
· Artist in Residence (clinician) visits to the Band
With your support, CHS Bands has grown from 78 students just a few years ago to over 160 students in 3 concert band and 2 Jazz ensembles. CHS Bands support CHS athletics at home football and basketball games and have marched in the Rose Festival Starlight Parade 3 years running, placing 3rd overall in the 2018 parade!
CHS Band Director Mr. Gary Riler and the Friends of Cleveland Bands feel strongly that we should not charge a mandatory fee for band. Instead we ask friends and family to support the program. We do not want to limit any student's ability to participate! The typical band fee for a high school band is $100 or more.
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CLEVELAND BAND?
1. Donate an amount meaningful to you. Remember that the CHS Bands receive no direct funding from PPS, so you are supporting the basic needs of running a high school band. Consider donating to support:
$100 - One clinician to coach a single class period
$150 - One tuxedo for a Wind Symphony or Jazz Ensemble member
$200 - Registration fees for a single Jazz Band contest
$250 - Cost of a substitute to cover one period during a field trip
$300 - One set of advanced music for a single piece
$400 - Two school buses for the PIL Band Contest
$500 - Pep Band t-shirts for incoming freshman
$600 - One school bus to Salem and back for the Jazz Band festival
$1000 - One commercial motor coach to Corvallis for the State Band competition
$1500 - Three school buses to take the Marching Band to the Starlight Parade
2. If you are supporting a particular student PLEASE BE SURE TO PUT THE NAME OF THE STUDENT YOU SUPPORT IN THE COMMENT BOX! (There are prizes for most money raised, largest number of gifts, and for participating).
In addition to the raising the funds needed to keep the CHS Bands going, the CHS Bands Play-A-Thon helps funds long term investments in the Band. This spring, the CHS Band marched down Main Street in Disneyland in Uniforms you helped purchase. In 2019 and beyond, The Friends of Cleveland Bands and Mr. Riler hope to:
· Update the Marching Drumline
· Perform again at Disneyland in 2020
Funding for music and arts in our schools is sorely missing. Children who experience music learn not just how to be a great musician, but also learn discipline and teamwork. Many studies show that music improves performance in other subjects like math and science.
BE SURE TO PUT THE NAME OF THE STUDENT YOU SUPPORT IN THE COMMENT BOX!
