2018 Odyssey of the Mind Worlds!

We Need Your Help to Get These Creative Kids to Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in May, 2018!

These seven kids (Muirgen, Faith, Toby, Joy, Harper, Keenan, and Morgan) dedicated weeks to writing a mockumentary style script, crafting their own props, sets, and costumes, as well as honing their performance skills (with no outside assistance!) in order to represent Brandon, Vermont at the State Odyssey of the Mind Competition on March 17th.  Their dedication paid off well, as they returned home with not only the 1st prize in their division for the Classics problem, but also the prestigious Ranatra Fusca Award for outstanding creativity (that’s the big shiny thing in the photo that they get to lug around for the next year)!


The judges’ comments ranged from  “wow!” to, “blew my mind!” in response to the performance given by these middle schoolers.  They were also amazed at the skill the team showed in handcrafting props, costumes, and sets by woodcarving, crocheting, sewing, painting, papier-mâchéing, the list goes on...


Now comes the encore performance, but for that we need your help! The team has the opportunity to wow another audience and compete at the World Finals at Iowa State University in May.  Along with performing and competing, they will have the opportunity to meet kids from over 850 other teams from around the world, and experience some exciting and educational events.  But, in order to give them this great opportunity, we need to raise some big bucks, and fast!


The competition is not until the end of May, but we’re trying to raise as much as we can by April 26th, the deadline for withdrawing from the competition.  We hope you can help us so we don’t have to withdraw*.  But, we are hopeful that we can raise the funds for this year’s team!  In order to cover entrance fees, food, lodging, and transportation we’re looking at raising about $10,200.  That’s a big amount, but every little bit helps, so please give what you can, and if you can’t, well, then help pass this along to get the word out! Since 1978, Odyssey of the Mind has been challenging young minds to creatively solve problems through friendly competitions.  Teams come together to support, learn, and express creativity and critical thinking through various problems they solve without outside assistance.
