2019 Fight Toxic Prison Convergence

Donation protected
UPDATE: During a public, family-friendly Fathers' Day BailOut Rally at the Alachua County Jail in Gainesville, FL, two people were arrested without warning and are currently being held at the jail. This fundraiser is now being redirected to support comrades who were taken from our midst. This will not detract from our separate fundraiser to bail out fathers, and we are still on track with our original goal to #EndMoneyBail and #BailOutFathers. Any donations beyond what is necessary to release these people will go directly to the joint efforts of Fight Toxic Prisons and Gainesville IWOC to continue to bail out fathers and reunite families that have been separated by the state apparatus.

The fourth annual Fight Toxic Prisons Convergence is taking place June 14-17 in Gainesville, Florida and will include speakers, panels, workshops, protests and cultural activities exploring the intersections of anti-prison and environmental struggles. We are currently confirming speakers for the conference and are excited to share updates with y'all in the coming months. We maintain a commitment to creating a space in which those most directly impacted are at the forefront of this conversation.

Background:

Fight Toxic Prisons seeks to build momentum across, bridges between, and solidarity amongst the movements for ecological justice, environmental justice, and prison reform/abolition. Through our annual convergences we seek to create space at the intersections of various movements and across prison walls (at our 2018 convergence 9 prisoners called in to speak on panels and breakout groups), a space through which we can collectively explore how we might achieve liberation and justice. A space where we can directly share and learn from tactics, strategies, and experiences beyond the scope of our particular movements and campaigns that might play decisive roles in our local victories.

Funding:

All contributions will go towards offsetting the fees necessary to make the conference happen. Those fees include travel costs for participants, food, lodging, and media outreach and distribution. Suggested donations can be between  25-50 dollars but any and all contributions are welcomed.

You can register for the Convergence here!

Thank you and looking forward to seeing you June.
