214 Fells - 326 Miles - 35,000m ascent in 14 days

At the start of September 2019, I plan to summit all the 214 Wainwright's in the Lake District over 2 weeks. Completing the Wainwright's is something people dream to do along a lifetime, never mind 2 weeks. Inspired by Simon Barnett from the Ramblers who did the same feat in 15 days in 2017, I have wanted to take on this challenge since last year, but have been unable to due to major back surgery.

This route will cover 326 miles, which is just short of a marathon a day for two weeks. I will be climbing 35,000m over the course of this trek, the equivalent of this ascent is equal to climbing Everest four times.

It will be physically and mentally challenging, but I will have a support team monitoring my progress throughout the journey. If anyone would like to join me for a leg of the route or at the finishing point, it is very welcome. More details will be posted in due course.

I am doing this to fundraise for Mind, a mental health charity. Having gone through struggles myself, I understand how hard it can be to speak out or seek help. In my situation I was lucky to have people close to me to help me out and encourage me to talk. However, there are so many unheard voices, something which clearly needs to change. By doing this I hope to continue to raise awareness for mental health and the services available, as well as fundraising to support Mind.

Mental health is at the forefront of our society. Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. Despite the amount of people who encounter a mental health problem, there is still a stigma attached to it. We need to break down this stigma and spread the word that whatever the situation, what you are experiencing, it is ok to talk, someone is always there to listen.

Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Their aim is to continue to campaign until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.
