Who are we?
Launching the Lagoon is a project spearheaded by a diverse, grassroots coalition of community members and partnering organizations committed to Marquette Park (Gary) becoming as inclusive as possible, to promote access for all in the greater Northwest Indiana/ Chicagoland area.
What are we raising money for?
We are installing an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible canoe and kayak launch at the Marquette Lagoon. Marquette Lagoon is located in Gary, Indiana’s beautiful beach community, Miller .
Why are we pursuing this project?
We are committed to becoming as inclusive as possible as a community and to promoting access for all in the greater Northwest Indiana/ Chicagoland area. This project is a first critical step toward achieving the universal access goals shared by the City of Gary’s Barrier Free Beach 2020 initiative and the Access Miller Beach Neighborhood Spotlight Community Plan .
What’s the entire project’s budget?
The cost of the ADA accessible canoe and kayak launch hardware and installation totals $32,000.00. By working together (the partners listed below) have secured a $25,000.00 Transform Lake County Grant from the Legacy Foundation to implement the accessible launch.
Matching Fund Donation:
A generous, local sponsor has pledged to provide up to $3,500.00 in matching funds for donations received through our GoFundMe project.
Our request:
We’re almost to our goal! Please help us raise the remaining $3,500.00 to install Lake County Indiana’s 1st accessible canoe and kayak at Marquette Park’s popular paddling destination.
Who are our partners?
Legacy Foundation of Lake County , Causes for Change International , Northwest Indiana Paddling Association , Neighborhood Spotlight Miller : Access Miller Beach committee , City of Gary Barrier Free Beach 2020 , and Miller Beach Arts and Creative District
