Our Journey to Baby K

To be completely honest; we weren’t sure if we were ready to share our story but starting our family is one of the most important times in our lives. Court and I have an amazing opportunity; one that we never thought we would have.. and that is using a gestational carrier to make our dreams come true!
A little about us as a couple! Court and I met in the Army Reserves; he is still active in the reserves but is working as a Deputy Sheriff full time here in Omaha. I am no longer involved in the Reserves but have a full time job with a company called Air Methods. We have been together for almost 5 years and got married a year ago!
When we began trying to start a family, we were overjoyed! The first time I found out I was pregnant was like I’m sure it is for most women… amazing! I couldn’t stop smiling! Unfortunately, 2 weeks later is when we found out that I was experiencing what would be my first miscarriage. This would start a long and painful journey…
After our first 3 losses; we were finally referred to a specialist here in Omaha. I won’t bore you with all the medical talk but we underwent a battery of testing! Through our time with the specialist; we have been through numerous different treatment options which included IVF. We were able to get pregnant numerous times but unfortunately they all ended in miscarriage. We finally ended our journey to get pregnant after our 9th miscarriage and several consults with fertility specialists.
The day the Doctor told me that I will probably never be able to carry a child was probably one of the worst days of my life. Most women want to be able to carry their own child and I honestly felt like a complete failure as a woman. We were now facing the possibility of never having children. This road has been so difficult for us and sometimes I felt like I lost a piece of my soul with each miscarriage.
After all the pain we have been through, we have been provided with an amazing blessing…the opportunity to complete our family by using a gestational carrier! Unfortunately; this does come with some added expenses including medical and legal fees. The total cost will be around $10,000, to start, but we are really hoping we can begin our family with your help! Every little bit helps us more than you will ever know.
We have also looked into adoption but at this point we are not eligible because we have not been married long enough. We have to wait 2-3 more years before we can begin that process but this is definitely something we will be looking into down the road! In the mean time, we have an amazing opportunity to have a child that is biologically ours!
We will also be starting a private Facebook group for anyone that is interested in following our journey! We are very open to questions and hoping to help others along the way.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and being a part of it all! We will always be thankful for the support that we receive during this time and know that we may never be able to repay those that help us but it means more to us than we could ever say in words.
