Soccer Camp in Attawapiskat
Donation protected
The Senior Boys Soccer Team at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton CSS (BMTM Royals), in Toronto, is currently AAA OFSAA Soccer silver medalist and has just qualified for its third OFSAA participation in 3 years.
The recent unfortunate events out of Attawapiskat sparked in our student-athletes the desire to help. As such, we are working with staff from Vezina Secondary School and with the Rec Coordinator in Attawapiskat to implement a soccer camp from June 23rd to 30th. We hope to form a long-lasting relationship with the Attawapiskat community and have the intention of making this program a yearly occurrence. Furthermore, we are also looking to expand on it by offering members of the Attawapiskat youth the opportunity to visit our school once a year, by coaching staff in the game and the rules of soccer and by implementing a house league that mirrors ours, by maintaining contact through social media and video chatting, and by nurturing our relationship through the gradual implementation of other activities. With us, we will bring soccer uniforms, shoes, nets, balls, pumps, whistles, bibs, and other equipment that we will be able to gather. Our students are bringing all kinds of gently used equipment which we will donate to the Attawapiskat community. The out pour of generosity has been just fantastic, but we need your help!
The money raised will be used for transportation, since the way only in is by plane. We will also be buying soccer equipment which we will leave behind in Attawapiskat. We hope to utilize some of the funds for food as well. As for accommodations, we will be sleeping on the gym floor in our sleeping bags.
Our trip is coming up fast. Our deadline for donations is June 15, 2016.
It's a big project and we are all very excited about it. Our kids won't talk about anything else and, according to our contacts in Attawapiskat, the same enthusiasm is witnessed over there. We would hate to disappoint them at this point!
Your generosity is tremendously appreciated. You will be helping to make life easier for fellow Canadians who truly need our support at their most vulnerable time.
Thank you so much!
