So these are the facts with no embellishment.
Harry the dog needs $2500 to save his left rear leg.
He needs $700 to save his life.
And this is why.
Harry is a stray. He's around 10 months old according to the vet. He's likely always been a stray as, though he had a collar made of fencing chain around his neck, he is emaciated and dirty.
Likely full of worms.
We imagine he has ducked and weaved his life from a litter of mungrels onto the streets. He's probably not seen much, if anything, in real kindness.
But he is a lovely gentle dog. We saw him struck on the road by a car. No one stopped, not even the person that hit him. People barely drove around him.
Guess they had important things to do. That's ok. Life is hard. There are bills to pay.
I carried him a good kilometre to the car. He didn't snap or struggle when I picked him up.
Despite his clearly broken and dangling leg he never struggled. He remained calm. He attempted a wag of the tail as we popped him in the boot.
He has a presence and a calmness. He seems old and worn out for such a young dog.
The vet says he will cope fine with three legs. He might be a puppy for a while with four.
Harry seemed happy enough that someone had just stopped to say hello.
The closest vet at Northside Veterinary Centre can't fix him without an owner, so we have decided to temporarily adopt him and pay for him to have another chance at life. The vet has offered to do his surgery at a discount, and throw in his desexing for free. Here comes the hard bit:
It is $2500 to surgically fix his leg, and $700 to amputate. Any money donated would be unreal. Up to $700 and we can give him a three legged new life, any extra will go towards a dog bed, some jackets (he is very skinny) and some doggie lessons when he is big enough. $2500 and he'll have two operations to save his leg. Any more and we will donate it to the RSPCA :)
