I'm a PSU student in International Development Studies, and I'm hoping to go to Cuba in June with the Cuba: Havana Study Abroad program by Oregon University Systems (OUS).
This is an amazing opportunity to visit a country with a beautiful, unique culture, and some amazing legacies since they began facing resource shortages following the fall of the Soviet Union. The University of Havana is renowned for their high academic standards and their work in medicine with limited resources. Following a food crisis in the 1990's, they have made impressive innovations in organic agriculture because of the inefficiency of fuel intensive industrial farming.
In the two-week study abroad program, I'll be studying their society and economy, and I hope to learn how to apply some of the tools used in Cuba to overcome resource shortages in my career of development abroad.
more program information can be found here: http://oregonabroad.ous.edu/countries/specialprograms/cuba.html
The costs are broken down on the website listed above, they estimate $5,300 in expenses, including tuition for two courses and additional travel expenses, and another $100 not included there for textbooks and supplies needed in those courses.
Thank you for your support!
