Scan the Eugene Leach Collection

We are the Racine History group on Facebook, and we're raising money to pay for the student workers at UW-Parkside who are doing the scanning.

Eugene Leach (1858-1938) was a self-taught author and historian of the history of Racine, Wisconsin, and he has contributed an extraordinary amount of carefully-researched documentation, well appreciated by people interested in the history of this vital city in southeastern Wisconsin.

At the time of his death, Eugene Leach was working on an unpublished book: The Story of Racine County—A History. This was to have been his largest work. The manuscript filled 14 archival boxes at UW-Parkside and when reconstructed, has 1371 pages. It was discovered at UW-Parkside by John Magerus. Doing some detective work with the help of Anna Stadick at UW-Parkside, it seems that the manuscript is owned by the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Today, the student workers at UW-Parkside are carefully scanning the manuscripts, estimated to take 220 hours. To help offset the costs, we the Racine History group is raising money to pay for the student workers.

All students of Racine history will benefit from having access to the digitized work of Eugene Leach. Please consider donating.
