Louie Is A Trooper

**December 11, 2016 -- Louie is beating the odds
**Louie got his teeth cleaned, went on vacation, and got chomped on by a Black Lab.... read his update to know, he doesn't let life get him down.
**Help is still needed to get him a dental cleaning to rid his mouth of bacteria and some very loose teeth. I was able to have Louie's tumor removed, due to generous donations, and he is doing great. Now, I'm trying to get him to this next step.
My name is Denise and I run Schnauzer Paws Rescue based in CT. It is difficult for me to ask for help in a financial way but I was encouraged by friends to start this page and ask for help. So, on behalf of the rescue, this is what I am doing because I feel Louie deserves it.
Louie had an unexpected vet appointment for a golf ball size tumor on his right forearm that he started to go at, creating a large sore that will never heal. His teeth are in such horrible condition that they also need to be taken care of, many of which will be extracted.
I've been researching different options and surgeons to find an affordable solution for his care. I have used up the remainder of the rescue's funds, and some of my savings for consults and meds. He needs to have surgery ASAP, otherwise, he will get an infection on his leg. If we cannot get the surgery for him, he will have to be euthanized.
He has been with me for two months and he asks for nothing. He is so well behaved and gets along with other dogs and loves humans.
He is beginning to know what it feels like to be loved and cared for and has started to accept and linger for more affection.
If you can find it in your heart to give even a little, it will be so much appreciated.
We think he deserves a chance to live. We are hoping that you feel the same way after reading his story.
Louie's story:
He was found roaming the streets by a couple that were able to get him into their car. He was grossly matted and his teeth are in such horrible condition with pus pockets receding gums and loose teeth. The couple took him to a groomer and then he was relinquished to the local ACO at the pound and his photo was posted on FB.
I was tagged by a friend that knows I do rescue and I knew immediately that he needed us. His demeanor came across in his photo and his photo did not lie. He is a very sweet mellow guy. He trots in the yard with a smile on his face and he likes to bark at the squirrels. He loves to lounge around in the sun and the shade, and like a true boy, dawdles when he has to come inside...unless it's for food. That, he'll run into the house for.
We had been told that although the tumor was cancerous, it was localized to that area. It could have stayed the size it was for a few years if all went well. The discomfort of it must have gotten to him. There are two choices for this type of situation... removal of the tumor or removal of the leg. The better of the two is actually removal of the leg. It is common for this type of tumor to not be completely removed at surgery due to how it grabs onto the bone. Generally, the growth returns. Removing the limb would prevent that from happening.
Thank you so much for reading my plea. Even if you are unable to help at this time, maybe you could do me a favor and share this with others. I will be forever grateful.
Sincerely,
Denise
