Save This Fair Housing Realtor

The short description of this fundraising campaign:

My fiancé Jesse and I recently became aware that our realtor and friend, Mauro, is in dire need for financial assistance. He is a valuable asset to the progressive community to gain access to fair housing, in both the rental and buyer real estate market. Mauro is going through rough times but still wishes to pursue his career as a realtor, so Jesse and I decided to set this fundraiser up to save Mauro's career and to avert Mauro falling into deeper poverty.

Mauro immediately needs $400 just to get through this month, and another $625 to continue servicing his clients as a realtor. Mauro explains that, "In real estate one needs to have money to market oneself along with referrals and I have not done well in either." Mauro's rent is currently being paid for by his sister, so the roof over his head has at least been secured for now.

The long description of this fundraising campaign:

Why I Set This Fund Up:

My fiancé Jesse and I recently became aware that our realtor and friend, Mauro, is in dire need for financial assistance. Mauro has been our realtor before, within the rental market, and we have recently requested his services yet again upon our decision to become first time home buyers in the State of Maryland. Jesse and I were introduced to Mauro through a mutual friend about a year ago when we were only renters looking to rent a new place.

What makes Mauro so special as a realtor is that he has integrity and upholds equal fairness among his clients. This honesty is his greatest attribute, as Mauro can simultaneously navigate through oppressive systems on behalf of his clients. However, Mauro's professional strength also serves as a detriment in the very cut-throat competitive real estate market, that usually doesn't practice treating consumers well. In addition, Mauro is a rare find among realtors as he is open to servicing the progressive community and our specific needs. About a year ago, Jesse and I sought out just such a type of realtor so to gain fair access to housing, which is how we got introduced to Mauro.

Mauro's ability and commitment to servicing such community members like us is what makes him an invaluable asset. If Mauro is unable to renew his realtor's license, he will continue to fall further into poverty. Thus, people of color and of progressive political leanings, like Jesse and I, will have one less reliable fair minded realtor to trust and depend upon in our search as renters or as home buyers within a system that was never intended for us to even gain access in such equity.

Mauro in His Own Words:

Hello I am Mauro Giacchetti: MD Realtor/Musician. My parents were from Italy who migrated to Argentina to find work and then to the USA. I was born in Argentina and came to the USA with my parents at the age of 6 and became a naturalized citizen at the age of 15.

My parents are now gone and I find myself in a bad bind. I lost my job in 2010 and then my house. I started my career as a realtor 2 years ago, but I have barely been getting by with the help of my sister who pays my rent.

My first year as a realtor I made under $10,000 and this year has been much worse. This month my realtor’s license is up for renewal and I do not have the moneys to renew it as well as pay my realtor expenses that are overdue.

I badly need $400 just to get through this month and another $600 to be able to get through the next couple of months. In real estate one needs to have money to market oneself along with referrals and I have not done well in either.

If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it as I really like the real estate business and am very good if given a chance.
