Remembering Jim Mitchell

Donation protected
Our friend Jim Mitchell died just a few days ago of an apparent heart attack. We dearly miss him, and we are trying to help his loved ones with the costs of a funeral befitting such a gracious, generous and selfless human being.

The following appeal is from Dr. Naresh Gunaratnam, who worked with Jim Mitchell for many years on projects in Sri Lanka, at the Grace Care Center (http://www.srilankaorphanage.org/).

"Many of you knew Jim Mitchell, who was a very strong supporter of Grace and served as president of our board [of VeAhavta] for 4 years.  He has remained active and has been helping us.  He died suddenly this weekend while raking leaves from an apparent heart attack.

Jim's fiancee has asked for help to cover his funeral costs.  Jim struggled with finances (he was the editor of the South Lyon newspaper for many years, however the paper folded like many other print newspapers) and he did not have any insurance.  His fiancee, Linda, reached out to me to see if we could help cover the funeral costs.

He has written a book about Grace ("But for the Grace") and wrote over 25 articles about Grace during the Tsunami and subsequent response in 2004 and organized many fund raisers in South Lyon.

As a result, Jim Mitchell is very responsible for all the great things happening at Grace today.  We had a visit with 42 volunteers in August and the girls/elders are happy and healthy and we have made great progress in improving their plight.  Here are some of the projects we are working on for those who have not been keeping track: http://www.srilankaorphanage.org/video-gallery/ ."

Please give as soon as you can to help cover the costs of funeral arrangements for Jim Mitchell. Any amounts donated in excess of $3000 will be used to support the Grace Care Center and Orphanage.
