Justice for Amanda

On August 27, 2015, James Colley attended court for violating a domestic violence injunction that his estranged wife had sworn out against him. Amanda Cloaninger-Colley had been forced to seek a domestic violence injunction against Colley because his history of mental and emotional abuse had lately escalated. He exhibited a dangerous pattern of domestic violence. He had threatened to take their children where she could never find them, he had stolen her medication, and just a few weeks prior, he burned every article of clothing she owned because she didn’t return a phone call right away. Colley had violated the injunction by coming to the marital home after he was ordered to stay away on two separate occasions.
Before leaving court on that day, Colley signed an affidavit that he had no guns to declare/turn in to law enforcement, pursuant to the terms of the injunction. Minutes later, gunfire erupted in the quiet suburban subdivision where Amanda lived. He had gone to Amanda’s home and murdered her in cold blood, along with her friend Lindy Dobbins. He immediately fled the Florida jurisdiction and after a twelve hour manhunt, was apprehended 600 miles away in Virginia.
Amanda and Lindy were cut down in the prime of their lives by a madman. On that unspeakably tragic day, five young children lost their mothers. Two of those young children have effectively lost their father as well.
Several GoFundMe sites have been set up for these families’ needs in the coming days, weeks, and years. This page is the official GoFundMe site of Amanda’s parents and siblings and is for the benefit of the Cloaninger-Colley children. Her parents, Tommy and Judy Roberson, seek to adopt their grandchildren. During a time of life when most people are planning their retirement, the Robersons are starting over raising a family. It is uncertain at this time whether members of the Colley family may contest the Robersons' adoption of the minor children. The Robersons seek your help not only to help meet the daily needs of their grandchildren, but to assist with legal expenses in securing the future of Avery (4) & Trey (6). We can no longer help Amanda escape her abuser, but we can secure justice for her by making sure her children are in the care of the people she would have chosen if her voice hadn’t been taken from her.
Your financial support is appreciated immensely, but this family covets your prayers even more. Please pray for the Robersons, the Colley children, and the wisdom of all the authorities involved in deciding the fate of this family, including the staff of the Department of Children and Families, the Guardian Ad Litem, the law enforcement officers and State Attorney who are working to prosecute the murder case, the Robersons' attorney, and the judges who will decide the family case and the murder case. Please pray for all of us who loved Amanda so dearly, and please help us to get justice for her.
