Magdalena Leones Memorial Fund
Donation protected
I am Rudy Asercion of the American Legion Bataan Post 600 and NaFFAA Region 8 and I am raising funds to help the family of Magdalena Estoista Leones, the Filipino WWII veteran who entered the history books as the only Asian female to have been awarded the Silver Star by the US Government in World War II
Magdalena passed away on June 16, 2016 and the family would like to fly the casket on July 6 for burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The Citation that accompanied her Silver Star:
"For gallantry in action at Luzon, Philippine Islands, from 27 February to 26 September 1944. During the period, Corporal Leones repeatedly risked her life to carry important intelligence data, vital radio parts and medical supplies through heavily garrisoned enemy-held territory. Although she knew that detection by the enemy would result in torture and execution, Corporal Leones fearlessly continued her perilous missions between guerrilla forces throughout Luzon with notable success. Through her intrepidity and skill as a special agent, Corporal Leones contributed materially to the early liberation of the Philippines."
Unrecognized by America, she is undeniably a national heroine and it is important that Magdalena is buried with full military honors in the Cemetary for heroes.
