Purr Project, a no-kill feline shelter located north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, currently houses approximately 150 cats and kittens. Facilities are situated on a one-half acre parcel of fenced land where our adult population roams free, allowing them to live in a ‘natural’ environment. Our kittens reside in the nursery, a large covered structure with a small open air patio. We have two other buildings that house teenage and adult cats that are suitable for adoption. Twice-weekly veterinary care is provided in our on-site clinic. Learn about us on our website and like us on FaceBook

Approximately 1,000 abandoned cats have been taken in during Purr Project’s nine years of operation. Many are feral, unadoptable or were simply passed over for adoption as kittens and will live out their life with us. The result is an aging population with special needs. As they age, their physical and medical conditions require more specialized care—some are physically unable to make their way to the feeding areas, some have lost their teeth, their vision or hearing and many require special food or medicines. Thus, there is an urgent need to construct a new building specifically for our special needs cats. This will allow them to live out their lives in a safe, comfortable, stress-free environment. The covered structure will be designed to give our 'old folks' shelter from Mexico's unrelenting heat and torrential rains during our long summers. It will also allow the vet to better supervise their on-going care without having to cage them in the clinic.

This new structure will be named ‘Simona’s Senior Center’, in honor of one of our oldest and most popular cats at the ranch. Simona was born with crossed-eyes and bowed forelegs which require daily medication—but neither affliction has slowed her down one bit. No visit to the Purr Project ranch is complete without a cuddle with Simona, who never met a lap or a shoulder she didn’t love.
