Help Gerald Get A Defibrillator!
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Mary.
Our Dad, Gerald Puckett, had a heart attack on June 18, 2016. One of his arteries that goes over the front of his heart had 99% blockage, and another artery was 100% blocked. They were able to open up the one that was 99% blocked with a stent, but they can't do anything for the one that is 100% blocked. He spent a week in the hospital and was sent home wearing a life vest.
(NOTE: PLEASE BE SURE TO WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE FOR MORE DETAILS THAN WHAT'S IN THIS TEXT DESCRIPTION...)
He is not a candidate for bypass surgery because his arteries were extremely damaged so he will be having surgery to have a defibrillator put in after 90 days.
It will cost them $750 a month for the life vest and we are told that the defibrillator will cost around $80,000. My Dad's insurance will pay 80% of that so my parents out of pocket expense will be around $16,000. That's on top of the Dr and hospital bills from the recent stay, not to mention all the medication he already has to take due to him having diabetes and an enlarged prostate as well. With his most recent heart attack, the Dr told us that his heart is pumping at about 10%. It SHOULD be pumping at around 60 to 70%. He said that if dad was stronger and younger that he would recommend a heart transplant, but given his weakness and age, a heart transplant is not realistic at this point.
This puts an enormous burden on mom and dad (and the rest of the family, for that matter), because my dad is 78 and retired, and he's on a fixed income. His entire monthly income goes towards trying to maintain his mortgage, which is several months behind, and they're currently struggling to stave off being foreclosed on. As a result, there's currently no money left over to cover new medical expenses, when he was already struggling to cover already-existing medical expenses from before the heart attack due to a diagnosis of Congestive Heart Failure a few years ago.
All donations will go towards current and future medical expenses for medication, medical bills and his upcoming procedure. Any amount will help and is greatly appreciated by the entire Puckett family!
Our Dad is a kind, loving man that has always gone out of his way to help anyone in any way that he could. We are just trying to return the favor in the only way that we know how right now.
Please, even if you can't donate, please pass this along to your friends. Positive thoughts, prayers, and well wishes are appreciated as well! Thank you!
