My name is Kevin Stein and I am 23 years old. Back in February I was rushed to the hospital after a combination of debilitating joint pain, extreme fatigue, and flu like symptoms culminated in me coughing up blood and being unable to walk. I also had a severe case of pneumonia, which ran rampant because my immune system was compromised. After staying in the hospital for a week while my doctors ran numerous diagnostics and more blood tests than I can count, I was diagnosed with a rare, life threatening auto immune disease called Wegner's Granulomatosis, which attacks the blood vessels in my nose, sinuses, throat, lungs and kidneys in addition to causing joint pain. It can also potentially cause great strain on my heart. I have been informed by my doctors that I am one of the youngest cases they have ever seen.
I am asking for your help as I have been unable to work since getting out of the hospital because of the extreme joint pain and fatigue I suffer from on a daily basis, and while I am applying for Medicaid and Disability, I have already been rejected once despite the fact that my disease is life threatening. I am fortunate enough to have been able to rely on my sister and her boyfriend for a place to stay, but my they aren't wealthy by any stretch of the imagination and unfortunately none of us have health insurance. My living expenses combined with my hefty medical bills have really started to weigh down upon myself as well as my family, forcing us to move from Gastonia to Fayetteville in May, despite the fact that we had come to think of Gastonia as our home.
With your help I will be able to seek out proper treatment and begin to pay back the debt that I owe to the hospital, and hopefully within a timely enough manner to avoid them selling more of my debt to a collection agency. If I can begin treatment, my quality of life will improve greatly, and if I'm lucky, treatment will force my Wegner's into remission, at which point I will have a chance at having a "normal" life. It is my goal to eventually be well enough to go return to work and continue my education, a goal that with your help I might be able to achieve.
