Aiyyana Maracle Support Circle
Donation protected
Dear ones,
On April 24, 2016, Aiyyana Maracle passed on surrounded by her loving family and friends. We are now raising money to support Aiyyana’s grandchildren and great grandchildren to attend her visitation/funeral in the coming days, and to create a lasting legacy celebrating her work, art and activism.
We can accept funds here, but you can also e-transfer funds to [email redacted] to avoid the processing fees on this site.
Phase 1: We are raising $5000 to cover the cost of round trip tickets from Vancouver to Toronto for her grand and great-grandchildren and any additional costs related to her visitation/funeral. We need to buy the plane tickets ASAP as her visitation is in the next two days.
Your funds will go directly to cover these travel and funeral-related expenses. We are going to purchase tickets tonight and tomorrow.
Phase 2: We are raising money to a). Develop an accessible archive of Aiyyana’s creative work and b). To create a scholarship/fund to allow others to continue Aiyyana's legacy. This fund will support other Indigenous women artists with trans experience to continue to create and work to bring social activism and art together. We are sorting out the exact details of this grant process now, and will post more details as soon as they are available.
The timeline for this is to have $5000 raised by May 31, 2016. The $5000 will go towards seed money for the fund and towards the creation of an archive of Aiyyana’s work.
Total goal: $10,000
Phase 1 deadline: Monday April 25, 2016.
Phase 2 deadline: May 31, 2016
About Aiyyana Maracle
Aiyyana Maracle was many things to so many people, including being a multi-disciplinary artist, scholar, educator, and a great-grandma 4-times over; and a sovereign Haudenosaunee woman. For half-a-century, Aiyyana has been actively involved with the merging of Ogwehoweh art and culture into the Euro-centric world and consciousness that surrounds us. She has been insistent that this inclusion into Canadian society be done with dignity and respect. Through performance art, video, theatre, in her published work, and innumerable public and academic presentations, Aiyyana has offered an alternate framework to the prevalent Euro-centric view of ‘gender dysphoria’. Her work is beautiful, complex, deeply meaningful and essential for future generations of artists and activists.
Please support Aiyyana's family and help them be together during this important transition.
Please help us fulfill Aiyyana's final wishes, that her work live on and continue to flourish!
