We're a not-for-profit ( 501(c)3 ) corporation, founded in 2004 to provide programs to improve and promote the community and to draw attention to our rich heritage - in the hope of attracting tourists to our area.
One of our most famous 'sons' was Charles W. Howard who started and maintained the world's first Santa Claus School for training would-be Santas a respectful method of portraying the beloved Santa Claus to countless children. He was the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Santa for 18 years. Charlie died in 1966, and his school has been moved to Midland, Michigan - and still functions.
We feel that we should draw attention to Charlie by erecting a bronze statue in his memory in downtown Albion. We hope to raise the money in the year 2016 - the 50th anniversary of Charlie's passing.
The presence of such a memorial will not only bring recognition to Mr. Howard but will attract tourists to Albion - Charlie's beloved hometown.
