Saving Idaho Wild Horses Fund

Tax deductible
Dear Friends,

I have launched this GoFundMe on behalf of our longtime work in protecting and preserving Idaho wild horses on their home turf because we are need of community compassion and assistance. We have to raise $24,000 to pay our 400-acre pasture lease for WLP's 135 rescued Challis, Idaho wild horses for four months. This $24,000 specifically covers our May-August lease at $6,000 per month (4 x 6000=24,000). This project has always been a "we" project and your help at this time is appreciated beyond measure.

My name is Andrea Maki and in 2010, I founded non-profit Wild Love Preserve as a means of collectively protecting and preserving native wild horses on their home turf.  Many said it would not be possible to bring opposing stakeholders together on behalf of our greater good, but I'm an advocate for truth in action, perseverance and two-legged accountability on behalf of our whole.

Six years ago, I made a commitment to help wild horses I met in Idaho while I was in Ketchum for my German shepherd's surgery. I had assumed my offer to help would be brief, but instead, Wild Love Preserve organically evolved into a monumental project which is helping to change policy in wild horse conservation. We have since saved hundreds of Idaho wild horses, on and off the range, have created a model which serves as a pilot for other wild horse regions, and have brought stakeholders and community together in a new light resulting in support from those on all sides of the issue.

The mission of Wild Love Preserve  is the protection and preservation of native wild horses and their respective indigenous ecosystems as an interconnected and balanced whole, with regional engagement and benefit. Kindness, mutual respect, science, and education are cornerstones of our model which engages public and private lands to address all facets of regional wild horse conservation on home turf.

Over the  last six years, we've been working tirelessly to save Idaho wild horses at home and remain active in negotiations and boots-on-the-ground action to curtail future helicopter roundups and removals.

In 2012 supporters from around the country rallied at the time of the BLM's 2012 Challis Helicopter Roundup and supported Wild Love Preserve's mass adoption of all of the removed Challis wild horses that the BLM made available, resulting in our 135 rescued wild mustangs. We are extremely appreciative of those who have believed in us, joined us, supported our work and continue to walk with us. Here is our narrated video story:

Wild Love Preserve has not received a penny in federal funding, but rather, rely on private donations and grants. In part, because we want to show the government and region that native wild horses are loved, appreciated, and an asset to region and state.

By design, the 135 Idaho wild horses that we adopted will remain wild and together on the permanently protected wild expanse we are creating in the heart of Idaho wild horse country. Logistics are in place, full project funding is our need.

We travel numerous directions in our ongoing effort to fund our project and fully implement our programs which, by design, benefit wild horses, indigenous ecosystems, community, state, and taxpayers. Wild Love Preserve's motto from our onset has been, "It takes a village," and this truth remains. We continue to go to great lengths to secure the well-being, safety, and freedom of wild mustangs in their native habitats - but we can't do this alone.

Your support is appreciated beyond measure and the difference you make carries a lasting positive impact in wild horse lives and their lasting preservation.

Big Love, Big Thanks, Andrea Maki
