Tracked Wheelchair

Disabled and Carers Association Inc is raising funds for Terry a C5/6 Quadriplegic who damaged his spinal cord in a water accident in 1980, at only 19 years old.

Terry was very lucky to survive this accident, and did not suffer from brain damage, even after spending an estimated ten to fifteen minutes face down in the water. 

Terry has been highly involved in the Sunraysia community over the years despite his disability, he has been a volunteer with Sunassist, Marlayna House, Mildura accommodation support service and Disabled and Carers Association Inc and was a problem and gambling counsellor in Dareton.

He recently has had a brush with cancer having four operations in four months, which resulted in having his bladder completely removed and an illeal conduit constructed to remove the urine from his system. 

Terry was again lucky with the operations as he had extreme blood pressures of 300 plus after three of the operations, a complication from the spinal cord injury (autonomic dysreflexia).

We are trying to raise funds to purchase a tracked wheelchair for Terry.

A tracked wheelchair will allow for Terry to go anywhere in the bush, where he can enjoy being in nature, fishing and hunting, without needing assistance or rescuing after getting bogged which is currently a regular occurrence.  

Terry finds getting out in nature helps him to re-energise himself and destress both physically and mentally, which he has not been able to do so far since the operations. Terry would like to find balance in his life again, and be able to enjoy nature and get outside of his inner city location.  

“Any funding of any amount will be greatly appreciated as I know how hard it is with money these days having been on a pension most of the time since my spinal cord injury,” Terry said.
