Hi everyone,

Many of you may know the hardships my family and I have experienced this summer. After 8 years of safe motorcycle riding, on June 14, 2016, while traveling home from work, my father was in a terrible motorcycle accident; he was hit head-on by a reckless driver of a car. My three siblings and I nearly lost our father. As he laid in extreme pain in the emergency room, he fought hard for his life. With prayers and the grace of God, he survived the accident. Unfortunately, the accident nearly ripped off the lower part of his left leg, which was so badly damaged that reattachment was almost impossible. Faced with years of surgeries that were not guaranteed and health concerns presented by several doctors, he had to make the difficult decision to amputate the severely damaged part of his lower left leg. It has been a tough situation, but most importantly, he survived the accident and we have a complete family again. After my father came home, we had to adjust to the fact that things would be different going forward. Nurses and physical therapists would be in and out of our home on a daily basis. While at home, my father was in constant pain that never seemed to go away. Every night, he would wake in great pain drenched in sweat, and there was nothing that any of us could do about it. After developing an infection, my father was taken back to the emergency room and admitted into the hospital. The infection caused the need for another surgery that required more of the damaged leg to be removed. This new situation broke our hearts. Just when we thought things were getting better, they really were not. I cannot imagine how my father feels. It is also taking a toll on my mother who is constantly running back and forth from the hospital. Once again, we are back to square one. Both parents are at the hospital while my brother and I are home helping to take care of our younger siblings. Although I hope and pray that my father’s amputated leg heals fully, his employment situation will change dramatically, which may cause further strain on my family’s finances. Over the past 22 years, my father has been employed by UPS. In each position at UPS, his jobs have required him to work on his feet. Currently, he works 11 hour days driving and delivering packages. He will never be able to perform the duties associated with these jobs again.

We are so thankful to everyone who has helped and for everything you have done for us this far. Your prayers and donations are graciously appreciated. We love you and we truly appreciate the support you have given to us. We are here asking for your help once again. The medical bills are continuing to pile up. We are soon to run out of insurance, and this recent surgery has presented a further setback. It is crazy how life can change in an instant. We pray that everything will be alright. It has been hard on us and we would appreciate any and all support you can provide. I know we may be asking for a lot, but we would not be asking if we were not desperate for support. Hopefully, everything works out as God has planned; he is watching over us.

Thank you so much and please keep us in your prayers!
Love,
The Owens Family
