My brother Ramon is a US Forest Service firefighter working out of and living next to the Bear Divide fire station in Santa Clarita mountains. Today my brother, his wife Bonnie and their three kids lost their home in the Sand Fire. I'm absolutely devastated for them, especially since they lost their previous house in the Station Fire in 2009. They are incredibly loving, giving people and could use any love, prayer, or generosity you have to offer right now. My brother chose to make a home with his family again in the mountains even after the Station Fire, knowing the risks but loving the life the forest provides his family. Everyday he and other firefighters work hard to protect our natural wonders and risk their lives when a fire erupts. My heart hurts for the loss of their home and for the other families affected. But I'm also filled with respect and awe for the bravery of our fire families, not just the firefighters but fire spouses like my Bonbon.
