Team Denise

As all of you know, our mother, Denise, is the most outgoing, kind hearted, loving, beautiful, selfless, and genuine person in our lives. She lights up the room just from walking in the door- her laugh is contagious, her smile warms your heart, and her outgoing personality always keeps us on our toes. She has unfortunately been struck with the most undeserving situation. Our mom had a stroke on July 17th. We are fortunate enough that our family was there to get her to the hospital immediately, however, the damage had already been done. She was at Northwestern Memorial receiving the best treatment, however, she unfortunately suffered another stroke while in the hospital. She has now undergone a stroke on both sides of her brain. The doctors had very little hope that she would even be stable again (her kidneys were failing, her heart was enlarged, and her blood pressure was out of control). This was all caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure. All of you know that our mom is tough- in fact, she is so tough, that she proved those doctors wrong. Her organs all returned to stable condition!! She is, however, still in a coma. She has been transferred out of the ICU and is at an Acute Care Facility where she will hopefully wake up and be able to follow commands before she can be transferred to an Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. She has made progress on Neuro exams: she is wiggling her toes and coughing on her own- she even smiled for us on her birthday! This is going to be a very long road for her- and we have faith and hope that she will recover and get through this. Our support team has been incredible- and we are very grateful. As many of you know, hospital bills are not cheap...we are raising money to help pay hospital bills to make sure my mom has the best care possible, because she deserves nothing but the best- today and everyday. The money will go to our dad, Denise's husband, to help pay for her care.  We want to thank you all for the continuous support- this is a really tough time for our family.
