THE UV THEATER PROJECT
THE SEAGULL
ARTIST RESIDENCY
AT THE RAGDALE FOUNDATION
Hi All -- Daniel Cantor here.  I've initiated this gofundme campaign, to raise finances for a budding and exciting theater iniative.    Here's the deal:

The UV Theater Project is a theater company of accomplished theater artists (most Chicago based, but some from Michigan and New York) that looks to create contemporary, and unconventionally staged/presented performances of canonical and classical plays.  We've started with our number one guy, Anton Chekhov.

We've been offered an artist Residency by the prestigious Ragdale Foundation (ragdale.org) in Lake Forest, Illinois, to create a site specific performance of Anton Chekhov's masterpiece, THE SEAGULL in and around the Ragdale estate, at the end of August, 2016.

And we need your help to make it happen!!

WHO WE ARE and HOW WE GOT HERE:  Last year a group of Chicago theater artists got together to do a reading of Anton Chekhov's masterpiece UNCLE VANYA over vodka and cheese. We had so much fun we decided to have a Vanya party – inviting friends to one of our homes – to read UNCLE VANYA (over Vodka and Cheese) – weaving the performance in and around them.  We found that the intimacy and informality of the performance unlocked something organic about Chekhov's work. It was exciting and fun and free.  We wanted to keep going.

Eventually, the Ragdale Foundation found out about our work, and awarded us their "thematic" residency for groups of artists working in collaboration. In August of 2015, we rehearsed and then performed a site specific performance of VANYA in and around the Ragdale grounds.

NOW: The residency was so successful, we've been invited back to Ragdale, this time to explore and perform Chekhov's first masterpiece, THE SEAGULL. We will again search to find an immediate, dynamic, energized, human, and highly intimate realization of Chekhov's aching, hilarious, paradoxical, and deeply universal writing. Once again, we wil do so in a site specific performance.

WHAT WE NEED: These residencies do require funding. Ragdale subsidizes its artist generously, though there is a daily charge for each resident. Performers are paid, and there are some production expenses.  We are looking to raise $2400.  All of the money raised goes directly to expenses.

We begin the residency Auguest 23rd and will perform August 27th.  So – we are looking to raise funds as soon as possible, closing the campaign on August 21st.

This is a 25 day campaign!

We would be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for your support of this work.  In an age of commercialism, the spirit of Chekhov thanks you too!

You can donate any dollar amount – from $1 to $1,000.
Please give what you can and help breath life into this residency and into a newly growing theater company whose main goal is to create vital experiences for ourselves and our audiences.
