DJ's Medical Fund
Up until a month ago DJ was a bright, energetic, outgoing child that loved playing outside with his friends, hanging out with his sister while watching movies or playing chase. But, that all changed a week ago when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell). Stuck to a hospital room, his options for activities are limited which is boring the heck out of him.
In the past week DJ has endured a spinal tap, a bone marrow biopsy, a blood transfusion, two lumbar punctures to inject chemotherapy into his spine and has has two rounds of normal chemotherapy. This little man has been a trooper through it all but, it's becoming harder and harder on him as the chemo begins to take it's toll on him physically, mentally and emotionally. His chemo will continue constantly for the next 7 months, then will tail off and it will be once or twice a month for the next 2 years. He will continue to have blood testing for the next five years. Soon, because of the chemo, his hair will slowly start to fall out. We have promised him the mohawk he constantly asks for prior to this happening though. We want to be able to provide him with all the things that make a 7 year old boy happy.
Although my insurance will take care of his treatment while at Johns Hopkins, it will only pay for so much of his prescriptions once we leave. The travel back and forth (about a 40 minute drive each way), paying for parking, food, etc. while at the hospital each day and night, and the many trips back and forth my wife and I will have to make each week for the next few years. It is, and will continue to, put a strain on us financially. We greatly appreciate any contribution you can make. If there are funds that are not used we plan to contribute those funds to the Children's Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to further research on this cancer, hoping to advance treatment and technology ALL.
Please share this link with your friends as well so that we can give DJ the best possible care and the care that he deserves. Thank you all again and we greatly appreciate any little bit you can donate.
