The Stolie Tippers 2018

My name is Trevonte Maxwell-King. I am the writer, director and producer of The Stolie Tippers. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I am a graduate of Milwaukee Rufus King International High School. I also attended Second City in Chicago. I have a strong passion for writing, acting and creating films which I term as creating visual impactful expressions. I have gained valuable experience working as an extra on the set of Fox’s hit drama series, “Empire” and creatied my first small local project called “The Struggle” which was featured in Talent Monthly Magazine. I also have a strong passion for working with youth, working the past five years as a Mentor/Crisis Stabilizer as well as an Assistant Director of a Mentoring and Youth Services Program here in Milwaukee. Over the past five years, I've spent many hours mentoring some of Milwaukee's most at-risk youth, with a strong emphasis placed on at-risk. At-risk is a term that in my opinion is too often loosely used and associated with only our youth, such as the youth that I mentor, but does not accurately capture the full extent of the underlying issues or reflect those of us who really fit the definition. In essence, we are all at-risk, meaning that we are all vulnerable and susceptible to the issues that plague our communities. Gone are the days of “This does not happen in our neighborhood” and we are more frequently hearing and seeing instances of various offenses take place within our city and communities across the nation; no community is insusceptible. If we do not invest in our youth, we will continue to see a growing disconnect that will continue to negatively impact our communities.

The word, Stolie is a slang term used to describe a stolen car. A Tipper is a slang term used to describe a type of driving. Today, it is estimated that a car is stolen every 43 seconds nationwide. There were over 2,000 auto thefts in 2017 in Milwaukee, alone. There has been a drastic increase in auto thefts which can be directly attributed to a significant increase in the number of juveniles involved where the increase in Juvenile arrests have also drastically spiked.

The Stolie Tippers project is very important to me. It is a project that I am very passionate about in that it is being developed with the intentions to shed light and provide awareness on a growing car theft epidemic involving teens. The StolieTippers will center on four teenagers from the City of Milwaukee who recreationally steal cars to joyride throughout the city. I developed this project to capture the impact that this growing epidemic has had on families within our community in an effort to depict a raw realistic portrayal that will provide awareness that ultimately save lives. I ask for your assistance by donating, where all donations will be directly applied towards production costs. Your donations will enable me to provide a quality production that will provide a strong message that hopefully will positively reach our youth.
