I've been suffering with kidney problems since I was 9 months old. I had kidney stones when I was just a baby. The doctor decided he didn't want me to urinate the stones out instead just give me a medication that would just melt the stones. Sadly I was overdosed and the medication proceeded to melt one kidney entirely and the 2nd partially.
I lived on a kidney operating at 50% until I was 7 years of age, then I ultimately had to be put on dialysis and a transplant list. I got a call for a transplant a few weeks after I was on the transplant list. After I got my kidney my mom and I had to stay in the Vancouver area for 2-3 months. Sadly 3 weeks after the surgery I learned the doctors had transplanted a kidney with a cancerous tumor into me. So with 2 weeks of trying to save the transplanted kidney and pumping me full with steroids the doctors decided to remove the kidney. I had to spend 9 months in the hospital that year. In a coma for 2 months.
Finally I made it back home. Two years later I was put back on the transplant list for another kidney. 2 years and 2 months later I finally got a call for another kidney transplant. This one lasted about 6 and a 1/2 years. It rejected in 2005 due to a throat infection that ended up spreading to the transplanted kidney. The doctors had to remove this kidney as well.
I have been patiently waiting on the list since 2005. Currently on dialysis. The dialysis I'm on now and the steroids they gave me during my first transplant basically ruined my bone density and this has made my bones very brittle. I had to get two total hip replacements. In May of 2012 I broke both femurs and tibia's from a simple fall in my driveway. I was ordered to put ZERO weight on my legs for 6 months. Had to spend 2 months in the hospital. Then 6 months later I was finally walking again but two weeks after that my shin broke simply because I turned around to sit in a seat. Three months later I started walking again then the very next day I broke my ankle by simply standing up. Then I was ordered by the doctor to stay off my legs for ONE WHOLE YEAR.
Currently I'm in a wheelchair. Have been for the last 3+ years. Ive been at hospital rehab for quite some time. Which has been 0 help for quite some time now. I'm currently getting physio at home and at the gym. But it costs roughly $100 per session. I don't get enough from disability to pay for these private medical services.
The kidney specialist and bone specialist have both stated that once I do receive a kidney my bone density will go back to almost normal.
I've been waiting for 11 years for a kidney. I'm considering other routes such as traveling to India. But this will be very costly.
Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to read this and if you have any friends who'd be willing to donate please inform them about this page.
Thanks again.
