The 24- A relay paddle for cancer

Donation protected
My life, like the lives of many, has been touched by people I love fighting cancer.  It's a brutal fight as cancer can be relentless in its effort to take and keep taking.  One of the things that can help most is simply knowing that people are out there who care deeply and want to help in any way that they can.

That's why when I became friends with Troy Nebeker, founder of Monster and Sea, that I immediately felt a deep kinship with him.  HE GETS IT, and it turns out that a lot of other people get it, too.

When they participated in the 24 last year, I helped out as I could but knew that I could do more.  When I was asked if I would be interested in having my own chapter for the 24 relay this year, I jumped at the opportunity.  That is why, on March 26 at 8 AM, my team will be taking to the water in Newport Harbor along with six other teams from across North America, paddling for 24 straight hours, to raise money to help those battling with cancer and to show them that they are not alone.

Please read Troy's story below and help us help others!

Cancer is a taker. It wants everything from us - our health, our confidence, our families. And it is relentless. Statistics say 1 in 3 people will arm wrestle with cancer. But what about the other 2 people?

Our job is to stand in the gap. Fill that void with love, compassion and our ability to GO when our friends can’t. This is what the 24 is all about.

Last year a team of 6 paddled for 24 hours to raise funds for families dealing with the chaos of Cancer. We set a modest goal of $5000.  Thanks to the kindness and generosity of this community we blew past our goal and in the end raised over $7000. Seven envelopes stuffed, seven families with a small breath of fresh air.

Here is the amazing part of it all. Our team of six paddled with smiles the entire time. Why? - Knowing what the end goal was - and also being surrounded by paddlers who came out to cheer and keep them going. Please come out again this year - it is an experience you won’t forget.

Fast forward to now - We are doing it again. What cancer can’t touch is our spirit, our drive and our will to live every day to its fullest potential. On March 26th at 8 a.m we will be on the water again - paddling to stand in that gap. The exciting part - a switch has been flipped and there will be 7 teams total doing the very same thing in cities across the US and Canada.

A community of people giving back in a very grass roots way. We are not a foundation or a charity - we don’t have red tape. Our goal is a simple one - Live life to fullest and inspire others to do the same.

Mark your calendar for March 26th 8 a.m as we start this adventure. As one person it is difficult to make a difference - but as a community? That’s where it gets good.

Thank you so much for everything.
