STUCK IN THE WEST
After a rough drive through the mountains of Oregon, the Nuclear Moms' van blew its transmission leaving it useless and essentially unrepairable. Once getting to the repair shop in the middle of nowhere, we were shuttled to a nearby U-Haul where we had to rent the biggest truck they had (26-footer--basically a semi) because apparently everything else was already reserved. We drove down to Oakland where we are currently stuck until we can raise funds to get ourselves and (most) of our gear home. Also, the repair shop kept the van because towing it anywhere else like a scrap yard would be too costly and just put us more in the hole.
We have considered many options on how exactly we should do this and found that flying and using a combination of checked baggage and carry-ons will be the best option. The gear that we can't get on the plane will just be shipped via UPS. We are already trying to sell one of the bass cabs as well as leaving a lot of others items from the van behind because it just isn't worth the cost of shipping them back.
Renting a van is out of the question as the place we tried to rent from currently doesn't have any vans available and all other companies are going to be more expensive than flying home.
We have already completely exhausted the band fund and most of our personal funds just to get ourselves safely back to Oakland and now it's just a game of finding the money to get 3 plane tickets and shipping covered.
The goal we have listed still doesn't even include the cost of gas from the U-Haul and the obvious catastrophic loss of the van. We're trying to get just enough to fly ourselves home and end this touring disaster.
We are trying to get ourselves back in Columbus by early next week (Monday) as Collin actually has to go back to school by Tuesday.
ANY contribution that you could spare for us will be extremely appreciated and will be used wisely and efficiently.
Please help us get home.
