Transportation bills and medication

My partner Don is 37 years old, a loving father of 2 who suffered a heart attack on June 1 2016. He has hereditary coronary artery disease. He has since been rushed by helicopter from one hospital to another 3 times with vtac (his heart can't keep a good rythym on its own anymore because of the damage done by his heart attack). He is currently a resident of Alberta and has not had a chance to change to Ontario health care as he has been in the hospital for most of the last 3 months. He needs to have a procedure done to try and fix his rythym that cannot be done at his current hospital. Alberta or Ontario WILL NOT cover his helicopter ride as its through a private company. Even though it's necessary he gets this procedure. The helicopter company wants "thousands" upfront or they won't take him. I have called everyone I can and tried all different avenues and everyone is telling us they can't help. He has been unable to work because of his health. He did not want me to start a go fund me page because he doesn't want "charity" but he is a good man and great father who is much too young to leave us and deserving of the support and care people offer him. We would appreciate any help the good people out there can give.
