Jesus Avila's recovery fund

You may have heard of the recent unrest in Milwaukee which involved violent protests, causing millions in damages. What you may not have heard was how the violence continued days later, and the far reaching effects it had.

On August 21st a group of about 20 teens reportedly wanted to "do the same thing here that we did on Sherman Boulevard." Their target turned out to be a van belonged to by Jesus Avila Saldana which was filled with school supplies for children in an impoverished area of Mexico. When interviewed, Mr. Saldana said "it was hard" to see what happened. Despite this setback he expressed a desire to turn "negatives into positives".

When I heard his story, I was inspired to contact him to hear more about what he does.  Mr. Saldana has been helping out school children at El Consuelo school by bringing them school supplies. He drives 350 miles past the border into the town of Coahuila 3-4 times a year and has done so for the past 17 years. He is carrying on a tradition of giving that his mother started many years before. For more than 30 years she donated food and made meals for the people in town, and when she passed on he knew he would continue her good work.

This year Jesus began giving donated laptops to children with the best grades, hoping to inspire continued success in these children.

Jesus has not only helped his home town, but has also brought wheelchairs to disabled people in Coahuila, Mexico City, Veracruz and Jalisco.

This man is an inspiration, and I would like to see the community of Milwaukee and beyond reach out to give back to him now. Please consider a donation to help him recover what he has lost. I'll end with a quote from Jesus:

"I truly feel terrible for the young man that got caught and is facing charges, I wish there was something I could do or say to make his life better! I guess it's not very clear to many people the fact that we all have this opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world and we should all be pulling together to celebrate that and to help each other."
