Teaching is my life and my passion. I wake up each day excited to go to work and take joy in not just teaching, but learning with my students. My students, or "scholars" as I call them, call me Miss Lukins, and each day we dive into the process of reading, writing, researching, and simulating history in my class. I have been a Language Arts and World Geography teacher at De Anza Academy of Technology and the Arts in Ventura, CA now since 2001. I have taught both 7th and 8th grades and am currently teaching 7th grade GATE. I absolutely LOVE my job! Yes, it is challenging work at times, but my greatest reward is seeing my students succeed and enjoy the process of learning! I lie awake at night creating new engaging lesson plans in my head, and I love to incorporate as many artistic projects for students to express their creativity, especially being at a "technology school" with one-to-one computing (each student has a netbook). I'm looking for funds to continue encouraging the creative process in my class and supply my students with arts & crafts supplies to make literature and history come alive! This money will be used throughout the year to supplement art projects and continue stimulating student curiosity, innovation, and creativity. I am so appreciative for any donations--big or small--as it means the world to me to see a smile of excitement and success on my students' faces.
