My name is Sheila Fox and I am the K-8 Talented and Gifted Teacher for the Edgerton School District. Edgerton students, from both Community and Yahara Schools, need your help!  We would like to purchase a 3D Printer and a Littlebits Workshop Set to add to our new STEM Center where Science experiments, Technology application, Engineering models, and Mathematical enrichment will be practiced and refined in this universal setting.  This redesigned classroom will be called a STEM Center and will be utilized by all classroom teachers for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.   Although the design of this STEM Center is in its beginning stages, we are confident of the positive impact this type of learning environment will offer our students.   This STEM Center is also aligned and supported by the middle school and high school STEM programs and teachers.

Our main financial goal for this fund  is to raise $2,100.00  to purchase a Little Bits Workshop Set. This educational set would challenge a classroom of curious children as they use their inventive spirit to create and design. This Workshop Kit would also cultivate independence in the area of coding and technology and allow students ownership of their own learning.

We would like to start the implementation of these materials by January 1, 2017.   A grant made by November 1, 2016 would allow us ample time for shipping and set up.

The building of the STEM Center has been made possible by a variety of local business organizations, the Rascal Community Club, and individuals who support this STEM initiative and see the value in hands on education.    With the creation of this STEM Center we are able to extend learning from the regular classroom to a larger environment with extended materials that will increase  experiences for  the universal student population so every student in every classroom has the opportunity to engage in STEM activities and learn to dream, design, and develop solutions that will create a context for learning in the 21st century!

So, how thankful will I be?  Today as I was sitting at my computer in the STEM Lab I could hear two little boys walking down the hallway.  One boy said to the other, "Look over there!  That's the new STEM Center!  That is my favorite part of school by far!"   That makes me thankful!  We need to have this STEM Center fully equipped and available to all children to meet the learning styles of every child and to prepare them to be problem solvers and trouble shooters and they grow to be leaders in the 21st century.

On behalf of all STEM Learners,
Mrs. Sheila Fox
