Help Pat Beat Cancer
Donation protected
The Backstory:
The Downey family needs your assistance to help our mother, Pat, beat cancer. Late last year, Pat began experiencing minor back pain. Like most of us, she initially tried all the conventional fixes: proper posture, light exercise, stretches, inserts in her shoes, and even a healthier diet. When her pain only escalated, she knew it was time to see a doctor. Based on preliminary tests the doctor feared it was colon cancer and quickly scheduled a colonoscopy and X-Rays to look for other potential masses. From there the situation quickly got worse. The X-Rays showed masses in the liver, lungs, and spine. Further testing found the cancer had spread to Pat's lymph nodes, and in mid-April everyone's worst fears were confirmed. Biopsy results showed it was Stage IV Lung Cancer.
Where she is now:
Chemotherapy is absolutely vital to Pat's chances of survival. Action needs to be taken, and it needs to be taken quickly. Pat is currently working to keep her head above water financially as long as she can, but the situation has escalated so drastically in such a short period of time that it has nearly wiped her out financially. The situation is sure to get worse once chemotherapy starts, and she is unable to continue working. Therefore, donations are needed to help Pat pay for her medical and living expenses while she is undergoing treatment.
How your donation helps:
A final round of testing is needed before we will know for sure but as it stands right now, there is a significant chance Pat has already seen her last Christmas. The odds of her seeing more than one Christmas stand at roughly 5%, which brings us to your donation. Most of the money will be used to help cover medical bills and travel expenses while making sure Pat does not end up homeless while fighting the good fight. That being said, her odds are not good and so once the mandatory expenses are covered, some of the money will be used to make Pat's remaining time in this world as enjoyable as possible. Happiness is a powerful medicine.
Pat is a loving mother of five with two young grandchildren. A mom of many talents, she will sit down and help you with your taxes, then turn around and enjoy a lavish tea party at the request of her grandchildren, then finish the night off with a friendly (if not slightly competitive) game of Spades with her friends and kids. On the rare occasion that she isn't spending her time with her loved ones, you can find her deep in the mountains or near a river (preferably both) enjoying the kind of peace and quiet that just can't be found at home. An explorer at heart, if you were to ask her she would tell you that GoogleMaps makes up 99% of the Internet's usefulness. We hope that donations will not only reduce the financial burden of her cancer treatment, but will also help her spend time with the people and places she loves most.
Thank You
Pat still has a great deal to see and an enormous amount of love to give. Every donation is more than we can ever thank you enough for but I will try my very best.
I think I speak for every person who has ever known what a wonderful person my mom is when I say, we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts and souls.
